The aim of this report is to represent what is popular in Indonesia. I interviewed some of my friends in class to gather my data, as well as using references to help my report. My questions here covers food, sport, music, TV shows, and methods of transportation.
First, I'd like to explain about popular foods in here. There are many kinds of traditional foods like Nasi Goreng, Sate Padang, Gado-Gado, etc. However, along with the progress of time, there are also new kinds of food that are introduced in Indonesia like fast foods, and etc. From what I find, most of the people here would prefer traditional foods like Nasi Goreng, Sate Padang, Gado-Gado, etc.
Secondly, I'd explain about what kind of popular musics here. Indonesia has many kinds of traditional musics like Dangdut. However, from what I find today, there are probably only 20% of us who still like Dangdut. And around 90-95% of the teenagers here prefer to listen to modern Indonesian pop which are mostly dominated by boybands and girlbands. However, a small numbers of us also like other kinds of music like K-Pop, J-Pop, and etc.
Third, I'd like to explain about the popular methods of transportations in Indonesia. Even though that most, if not all of the students in here use private cars, but in truth, the most popular method of transportation in here are motorcycles, or to be precise, "Motor Bebek" thanks to their small sizes to cope with the traffic jams in big cities like Jakarta. However, many Indonesians also prefer to use public transportation like Metromini, Kopaja, KRL, etc. And often, those vehicles, especially the latter are mostly overcrowded
Fourth, I'd also like to explain the kinds of popular TV shows here. From what I can find, most of the students I asked prefer Reality Shows and Sinetron (Sinema Elektronik-Commonly translated to Soap Operas). However, some of the teenagers here also like Japanese animations or Anime.
From this report, I can conclude that most Indonesians tend to prefer modern things over than traditional things, even though that traditional things still keep a strong existence till now. And most of Indonesians share similar interests between each other. And my closing words are It's okay if we prefer modern things, but we should remember that we still have to maintain the existence of traditional cultures here, as they originate from Indonesia, so it's entirely up to us to keep it alive or not. That is all.
